Germany—Trip of Fantasy
IF THIS IS DESTINY, WE ARE SURE TO MEET AGAIN.
-------PREFACE
“WE have reached our final destination Frankfurt, thanks for taking our flight; please enjoy your stay here.” With this announcement, we got off the plane and began our happy days.
We met our German friends on the afternoon of August 10th. Soon, I became friends with Lukas and David. After the afternoon tea, we went to a room where we introduced to one and another. I remembered most of the German students when the afternoon passed.
On the second day, we worked in groups to make posters. It was neat to cut the pictures out of magazines and stuck them on the posters. All of us were asked to introduce China and Germany to the students of other countries.
And in the afternoon, the Chinese-German mixed group had to choose six cards for building a dream city. It was hard to choose from all the good cards. Nearly all of those cards were important for building a city.
Then on the morning of the third day, we made the rules of our city, drew the map and started building it. I have never done anything like that, and it was quite interesting. We did a lot of work to finish the city. After about one day, we finished. The city of our group is Park-Side, because the whole city is a park.
We began to go outside on the fifth day. We went to a car company and saw how the parts of the cars were produced. Our first stop out of town was Attendorn, a small town near Biggesee. There we met the mayor and had a “meeting” with him, we asked questions to him and got our replies.
The best thing was that I got my German name, given by Lukas and David. They called me Eckhardt since then. That night, we had a party with the Germans. So I learnt some German language. I learnt pretty fast, so the Germans taught more.
We spent the morning of the sixth day in Maria Queen’s School, where our German friends came from. I admire their education; everything is just so easy and fun. I think it would be nice for China to change our education system. In China, students are under too much pressure. Actually, I was thinking of going to college in Germany now.
We had free time that afternoon, so we went to Lake Biggesee for a swim and enjoyed a good time there. I even tried to play guitar on the beach.
Well, we visited a museum, a cathedral, a castle, shops and other cities on the rest of the days. Also, I learned lots and lots of new German language, as I could learn quickly and remember correctly, the German students began to talk to me in German. I could understand the words I’ve already learnt.
Before the day I left, I went to Lukas’s house. He told me a lot about his family. He’s got two younger sisters and one of them was adopted. I asked him the reason why his parents had two houses. He said they divorced and I was sorry to hear that. They took me to a festival in the afternoon, where we played some amusement park attractions. It was really exciting and a bit scary. In the evening, we all went back to the Akademie and had a barbecue dinner with all the German families.
On the last morning, we said goodbye to the Germans, lots of students cried, but I didn’t. It was pretty strange, because in this kind of situation, I usually have tears in my eyes.
It is said that all good things must come to an end. It is impossible to keep it forever. The only thing we can do is to cherish the days we had, the time we spent, the things we did together, and most of all, the relationship we made. These ten days, I was living in fantasy, no pressure, no parents, no teachers, only friends, freedom and happiness. I didn’t fit in the normal life on the moment I got back. I still have this kind of feeling, “That is where I truely belonged.”
Also, there is one thing I know. This is a good experience, but we all have to go on with our lives. And no matter what happens in my journey, I will think of the days in Germany, I know there is always some one there for me. And I pray for a chance for us to meet again.
If destiny has chosen us, we will meet again someday.
